State the decision and scope
Choose the segment, period, and revenue measure. Record the target, estimate what the roster could produce, and compare that estimate with qualified demand and the submitted forecast.
- Decision, accountable owner, period, currency, and bookings or revenue measure: [ ].
- Is there enough qualified demand that can close in the period? [ ].
- Does the team have the productive capacity to work it, and are ownership or process delays preventing useful coverage? [ ].
Build a comparable input set
Use compatible roles and cohorts for productivity assumptions. A count of people does not describe availability, ramp, or the work each role can handle.
- Roster by role, start date, ramp, planned departures, and time allocated elsewhere: [ ].
- Comparable historical production, or quota and attainment basis: [ ].
- Qualified demand, timing, and conversion by relevant cohort: [ ].
- Concurrent active workload, eligible accounts, protected pursuits, and handoff delays: [ ].
Calculate productive capacity
For each comparable rep or cohort, expected capacity equals whole-period quota multiplied by productive fraction and expected attainment. Sum the results across the team. Productive fraction reflects available time and ramp.
- Whole-period quota: [ ]. Productive fraction: [ ]. Expected attainment and its supporting cohort: [ ].
- If quota is already prorated for ramp or absence, do not apply that reduction again.
- Apply hires and departures when they can affect production, including sales-cycle timing. A higher quota cell does not create demand.
Cross-check demand and effort
Calculate how many wins, qualified opportunities, and worked accounts the target requires using comparable historical conversion rates. Then check simultaneous workload: a team may be able to process the quarter's total volume but still be overloaded if too many evaluations overlap.
- If demand is insufficient, assess creation and conversion before assuming hiring will close the gap.
- If suitable accounts are held without valid protection, use the lifecycle release rule.
- If qualified work exceeds capacity despite good coverage, compare hiring, specialization, and process changes.
- Check whether the required cohorts have enough time to close in the planning period.
Record one recommendation
Compare conservative, baseline, and upside assumptions for ramp, attainment, and demand. Recommend the action that addresses the limiting input and name when its effect could arrive.
- The constraint is [ ]. I recommend [ ].
- The action should change [input] because [evidence].
- We will test it in [cohort] and review [outcome and date].
- Before a staffing conclusion, verify period alignment, ramp treatment, demand timing, and the workload calculation.
